Das Holzbläserquintett 5 Beaufort wurde im April 2009 auf Initiative zweier Ensemblemitglieder gegründet, die sich in London bei einem Auslandssemester an der Guildhall School
of Music and Drama kennenlernten. Da die Mitglieder zu dieser Zeit alle in Leipzig oder
Weimar studierten, wurden sie von Professoren der Hochschule für Musik und Theater
Leipzig und der Hochschule für Musik Weimar wie Prof. Martin Spangenberg, Prof. Thomas
Hauschild und Prof. Irmela Bossler betreut. Beim 13. Hochschulwettbewerb für Ensembles
der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig im November 2009 erhielt das Quintett den
3. Preis sowie den Sonderpreis für die überzeugendste Darbietung eines zeitgenössischen
Werkes und gewann im September 2010 den Wettbewerb „Cours et Concours“ der Villa
Musica. Noch im selben Jahr wurden sie in die Stiftung des Yehudi Menuhin Live Music
Now e.V. in Leipzig aufgenommen und vom Freundeskreis der Hochschule für Musik und
Theater Leipzig sowie den Freunden der Villa Musica gefördert. Im September 2011 folgte
das Quintett einer Einladung des Goethe-Instituts und der Jungen Deutschen Philharmonie
nach Indien, um dort im Rahmen des Deutsch-Indischen Freundschaftsjahres „Germany and
India 2011-2012“ in Chennai, Kalkutta und Neu Delhi zu konzertieren. Im Juli 2012 musizierte
das Quintett im Rahmen von „Young Euro Classic“ im Konzerthaus Berlin. 5 Beaufort studiert seit Oktober 2013 an der Universität der Künste Berlin in der Klasse des Artemis Quartetts im Masterstudiengang Kammermusik. Im November 2013 gewannen sie den 1. Preis
beim 13. Internationalen Musikwettbewerb in Chieri. Konzerte führten das Quintett u.a.
nach China, in den Libanon, nach Italien und Österreich.
The woodwind quintet 5 Beaufort was founded in April 2009, following the initiative of two
members of the now existing ensemble, who met during a term abroad at the Guildhall
School of Music and Drama in London. At this time, the musicians were all studying in Leipzig or Weimar and were supervised by professors of the respective conservatories: Martin
Spangenberg, Thomas Hauschild, and Irmela Bossler. In November 2009, at the 13th competition for ensembles at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig, the quintet won the
third prize as well as the special prize for the most convincing interpretation of a contemporary work. In September 2010, they won the competition “Cours et Concours” of the Villa
Musica. In the same year, they were admitted to the foundation Yehudi Menuhin Live Music
Now in Leipzig. They were supported by the Friends of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig as well as by the Friends of the Villa Musica. In September 2011, the quintet accepted the invitation of the Goethe Institute and the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie to India
in order to give concerts in the context of the German-Indian year of friendship in Chennai,
Kolkata, and New Delhi. In July 2012, the quintet gave a concert at the Konzerthaus Berlin
during the festival “Young Euro Classic”. Since October 2013, the ensemble studies for a
master’s degree in chamber music with the Artemis Quartet. In November 2013, they won
the first prize at the thirteenth International Music Competition in Chieri, Italy. The quintet
gave concerts in China, Lebanon, Italy, and Austria.
