Verbs are used to describe actions. The future tense is used to describe actions that are going to happen sometime
in the future, although modern German (especially spoken German) tends to use the present tense to express future
actions (sometimes adding a future adverb of time, such as next week, next year, in two years, etc.).

Schneewittchen wird in 2 Jahren
promovieren.

Schneewittchen promoviert in 2
Jahren.
Snow White will graduate in 2 years.
Future forms
The future tense is formed by a conjugated form of werden and an infinitive verb.
Aschenputtel
Ich werde meine eigene Praxis
haben.
I will have my own practice.

Future with modal verbs
With modal verbs, you still use the form of werden, and then add two infinitives: the original primary verb and
the modal verb, as the following longing revelation from the evil queen illustrates:
original sentence
Ich frage meinen Spiegel jeden Tag:
Wer ist die Schönste im Land?
I ask my mirror every day: Who is
the most beautiful of all [in the
country]?

modal verb
Ich muss meinen Spiegel jeden Tag
fragen! Ich kann einfach nicht
anders!
I have to ask my mirror every
day! I can't stand it!

Nach der Therapie aber werde ich

In a subordinate clause, the auxiliary verb werden precedes both the original verb and the modal verb at the
end:
Wenn ich meinen Spiegel nicht mehr werde fragen
müssen, wird man mich endlich in Ruhe lassen - ich
habe die Nase voll von diesem schlechten Ruf!
If I no longer have to ask my mirror,
people will finally leave me in peace - I
am sick and tired of this bad reputation!

One of the main pitfalls for American learners of German is the difference between the English will/want to and the
German wird/will.

sound overly formal since, in many cases, these would be expressed with the present tense instead.
