Moldova, wide spread in the North Kaukasus region, the influence of different systems of irrigation was studied during 1986-90: furrow irrigation, drip, minisprinklers, drip + minisprinklers, furrow + minisprinklers. The soil was moistened up to 70-80 % of field capacity. Irrigation increased berry size and cluster weight especially with drip irrigation and drip + minisprinklers. A part of the cuttings was treated with 0.2 % IAA solution for 3-4 s before rooting. After 17-24 d significant differences in rhizogenic activity (RA) were found: highest RA was found in cvs Suruchenskii belyi, Frumoasa albe and Srebrostroui, middle RA in Kodryanka, and poor RA showed Vostorg, Original, Pamyat'Negrulya, V-45-23, Bianka, Viorika and Rosinha. IAA application was highly effective with very high, high and middle RA cvs and showed little effect in cvs with poor RA. IAA application was more effective with cuttings firstly rooted in water than with those directly planted into gravilene. [AZ 416] (I. The new method presented introduces a 3rd parameter, the coefficient of productivity: average number of inflorescences of 10 winter buds on the cane (frozen or damaged buds excluded). The optimal pruning length of canes corresponds to the (cv. specific) coefficient, the demanded grape yield/ha and the number of vines/ha. Bei den mit Polyaethylen behandelten Pfropfreben betrug (nach Stratifikation im Wasser) die Ausbeute an erstklassiger Ware 83,35oe. Im Kallus war die Katalase-Aktivitaet gesteigert, die Trockenmasse verdoppelt und die Pigmentbildung verzehnfacht.(Misolavljevic, M.; Zemun) In grafted vines with a sheath of white polyethylene foil around the graft site, callus formation was 52% higher compared with the control, and the calluses were more uniform and compact; similar results were obtained with grey PVC foil. With the grafted vines treated with polyethylene, the yield of first class material was 88.35% (after stratification in water). The study has been carried out during 1995-97 on the basis of Kuban State University grapevine Kurzfassung: collection which has been established by the method of green grafting on 5 BB rootstock seedlings. The plants were trained on vertical trellis as one-sided, long-branched vines; 3 m x 2 m spacing: cvs Bianca, Gm 318-57, Gm 322-58, Gechei zamatosh', Riton, Srebrostrui, EN-9 and EN-10. Embryonal fruitfulness of dormant main buds has been assessed by microscopy in October (10 vines of each cv. were cut). Actual fruitfulness has been recognized by agrobiological calculation methods. The average fruitfulness index (FI) varied from 1.1 to 1.75 suggesting the probability of high yield (minimal values with Bianca, EN-10, Gm 322-58 and maximal values with Riton, Gm 318-57). Minimal FI values have been observed on the first node of annual shoots (0.62-0.64), maximal ones on the 6th-10th nodes (1.25 - Bianca; 2.16 - EN-9). After 20-30 d explants were subcultured on medium with 0.5 mg/l benzyladenine. After 14 d 3-4 cm high shoots with 6-10 buds were grown, and cut into 1-2 cm pieces with 1-2 nodes each. The cuttings without leaves were transferred on fresh medium with 1.5 mg/l benzyladenine. For the maximum proliferation, optimal concentrations of medium components (e.g., MgSO§4, KH§2PO§4, cytokinins) need to be determined experimentally, but changing 0.5 and 1.5 mg/l of benzyladenine in the subcultures could be recommended. It was found in a full multifactorial experiment that for proliferation of axillary buds in liquid medium 5.5 mg/l pyridoxine, 5 mg/l nicotinic acid, and for shoot prolongation 5 mg/l pyridoxine and 5 mg/l thiamine should be added. Before *ex vitro* transfer, indole-3-acetic acid (0.1 or 0.05 mg/l) and benzyladenine (0.05 mg/l) should be excluded from the medium. The other medium components before transfer are important as well. Before transfer plantlets were hardened by changing the aluminium foil for transparent foil coverings which enable diffusion of water vapour, CO§2 and O§2 into/out off the vessels. G - BREEDING [Grape Cultivars of the South of Russia: Manual] Krasnodar, Russia, Information Center of Russia "Vol'nyie Mastera", 2001, 192 pp., 2001 Ru The Manual provides characteristics and color pictures of the three classification groups of grape cultivars: recommended (recognized) cultivars - those included into the State Register of the Achievements of Breeding to be used for commercial cultivation throughout the North Caucasus; authorized cultivars - those currently under trial within the framework of the State Comission of the Russian Federation for Cultivars and propagated; temporarily authorized cultivars - those introduced and modern successful selections. The cultivars covered by the Manual are cultivated in the South of Russia, possess economic traits and enter as valuable gene sources (212 color pictures). The Manual is recommended by the Department of Personal Policy and Education of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation for students of higher educational institutions specializing in the line of agronomy.
