Original Reading Activity
This reading activity is intended for German 101 students while they are learning theater, films and
music in German. The students are expected to know vocabulary words regarding theater and culture
before doing this activity. The reading activity has many cognates, which will help the students
understand along with clear, short sentences. The purpose for this activity is to have the students
practice their reading skills in German, while also reading something that is applicable to them and what
they are learning in the classroom. This is designed for individual and partner work.

Instructions:
1. Have the students first read the story for understanding. This will give the students the
opportunity to focus on understanding the story.
2. After the students are all finished reading, pass out the Aktivität 1 worksheet. Tell the students
to read through the article one more time, answering the questions while they are reading.
3. After the students are done with the worksheet, go through the answers as a class together.
Since the answers are either “true” or “false” the class can easily say what the answers are.
4. Pass out the Activität 2 Worksheet and tell students they can work with a partner. After each
group is finished go through the answers together as a class. Ask for volunteers first, but if there
are none call on specific individuals or groups for the answers.

Monty Python wieder da
Die Männer von der Komiker-Gruppe Monty Python wollen wieder zusammen Theater
spielen. Das haben sie 15 Jahre lang nicht mehr gemacht. Jetzt kehrt (returns) die
Gruppe Monty Python auf die Theater-Bühne zurück.

Die Gruppe Monty Python entstand (was created) im Jahr 1969, also vor mehr als 40
Jahren. Sie kommt aus England und ist berühmt (famous) für Klamauk (slap-stick humor)
und Blödeleien (jokes). Zu Monty Python gehören heute noch 5 Männer. Sie sind
Schauspieler und Komiker. Sie kommen aus England und dem Land USA. Berühmt wurden
sie mit Kino-Filmen. Einer davon heißt “Das Leben des Brian”. Darin geht es um die Bibel
und das Leben von Jesus. Außerdem konnte man die Gruppe Monty Python früher oft im
Fernsehen sehen.
Viele Menschen finden die Witze (jokes) von Monty Python lustig. Manche Menschen
finden, dass die Witze unverschämt (outrageous) sind. Die Witze von Monty Python nennt
man deshalb auch “schwarzen Humor”. Der bekannteste Schauspieler von Monty Python
heißt John Cleese. Er spielt die Hauptrolle in dem Film “Ein Fisch namens Wanda”. Alle
Schauspieler von Monty Python sind jetzt über 70 Jahre alt.
