Vita:
Born in 1986 in Munich, as the daughter of a Korean nurse and her Bavarian patient.
After high school in Hamburg Mia Spengler goes to Beijing for two years, where she founds
the Band MIYA and works as a singer. After several jobs at a film production in Shanghai,
she returns to Germany in 2008, moves to Berlin and works as a personal assistant of Hans
Weingartner
In 2009 she begins studying directing at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg where she
directs several award winning short films. With her film NICHT DEN BODEN BERÜHREN,
she wins, inter alia, the Torina Prize in the category best Director at the Film Festival San
Sebastian.
In 2014 Spengler attends the Hollywood Extension Workshop at UCLA in Los Angeles and
concludes her studies with her first feature film BACK FOR GOOD in 2016 which will open
the section 'Perspektive Deutsches Kino' at Berlinale 2017 and is also nominated for the
"GWFF Preis Bester Erstlingsfilm”.
Currently she develops her next film DAS GHETTO DER MITTELMÄSSIGKEIT in the Script
& Pitch program of the Torino Film Lab.
