Professor Sarah Springman CBE FREng was awarded the Medal as Commander of the Most Excellent
Order of the British Empire yesterday at Buckingham Palace by Her Majesty the Queen for her
contributions to the sport of triathlon. She is the President of the British Triathlon Federation and
National Olympic Committee for triathlon member of Great Britain and Vice President of the
International Triathlon Union. She was responsible for leading the successful bid to place
paratriathlon in the Paralympic Games and also the triathlon mixed relay in the Commonwealth
Games, as well as presiding over an extremely active National Federation that has strong hopes for
Olympic success this summer on home turf in Hyde Park London.
Sarah Springman has also just been announced as one of the members of the Search Committee for
the award of the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering, which is a global prize for recognising and
celebrating outstanding advances in engineering that have changed the world. In this role she will be
working with distinguished international colleagues to encourage world‐class nominations for this
new global £1million prize that recognises and celebrates world‐changing advances in engineering.

Sarah Springman CBE FREng, Professorin an der ETH Zürich, konnte am Donnerstag im Buckingham
Palast die Auszeichnung als Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire CBE
entgegennehmen. Queen Elizabeth hat ihr den Orden persönlich überreicht, eine Auszeichnung für
ihre Verdienste im Sport als Triathletin. Sarah Springman ist Präsidentin der British Triathlon
Federation, Mitglied des britischen Nationalen Olympischen Komitees für Triathlon und Vize‐
Präsidentin der International Triathlon Union. Sie war massgeblich daran beteiligt, dass der
Paratriathlon mit der Aufnahme in die Paralympischen Spiele olympisch geworden ist und die
Triathlon‐Mixed‐Staffel zukünftig eine Disziplin bei den Commonwealth Spielen sein wird. Die
nationale Triathlon Federation ist unter ihrer Führung sehr aktiv und hat gute Chancen auf einen
olympischen Erfolg auf heimischem Boden in Londons Hyde Park.
Sarah Springman wurde ausserdem als Mitglied des Search Committees zur Verleihung des Queen
Elizabeth Prize for Engineering ernannt. Dieser international verliehene Preis würdigt und ehrt
aussergewöhnliche und weitreichende Fortschritte im Ingenieurwesen. In dieser Rolle wird sie mit
renommierten internationalen Kollegen und Kolleginnen zusammenarbeiten, um herausragende
Kandidaten für diese mit einer Million Pfund dotierten Auszeichnung auszuwählen. Weitere
