Deutscher Alternativer Medienpreis 2009. „Du bist Radio“ eröffnet besonders vulnerablen gesellschaftlichen Gruppen wie Patienten mit ALS oder Kindern im Hospiz die Möglichkeit, eine eigene Radiosendung zu produzieren; dies korrespondiert mit seinem PhD-Projekt mit ALS-Patienten (gefördert vom Käthe-Zingg-Schwichtenberg Fonds). 2 von 10 Stutzkis Hörfunkprojekt konnte sich in der Sparte „Audio / Hörfunk“ unter 130 internationalen Beiträgen durchsetzen. Die Jury des von der Nürnberger Medienakademie verliehenen Preises würdigte das Medienprojekt als „bestes alternatives Radio“. 2.) Nomination für den grössten kontinentalen Medienpreis (aus über 600 Einsendungen und 40 Ländern). Menschen mit Amyotropher Lateralsklerose produzieren eine einstündige Sendung. Menschen mit einer besonderen Lebensgeschichte - insbes. vulnerable Patienten – bekommen die Möglichkeit, selber eine Radiosendung zu produzieren. Nach dem Dt. Eine qualitative Interviewstudie Betreuung: Prof. Dr. Stella Reiter-Theil, Dr. Franziska Rabenschlag / UPK 9 von 10 PhD-Program Medical and Health Ethics, Medical Faculty Basel Profile Relevance The field of Medical and (Public) Health Ethics is receiving considerable attention, both in academia and in society. This acknowledgement of the field led to the implementation of the PhD-Program in the Medical Faculty of Basel in 2008. Also in 2008, the Swiss Catalogue of Learning Objectives has laid down ethical competences as an integral part of medical education and professionality, thus responding to the increasing significance of the field. The Catalogue Objectives include providing training at the level of the individual, and at the public health levels of population, community, and health advocacy. This wide scope of the medical education requires a correspondingly wide coverage in research. Content Ethical issues such as decisions at the end of life, vulnerable patient groups, medical innovation and its consequences, the allocation of limited resources in health care create challenges that have stimulated the development of clinical ethics and consultation. The dynamic field of clinical ethics support requires solid research and professional competence. The area of public health also poses ethical questions to professionals as well as to policy makers and citizens. The complexity of the issues requires interdisciplinary approaches for the development of problem solving strategies. Students, researchers and professionals need to acquire appropriate knowledge and skills in these realms. For this purpose, education as well as the health care sector or even other areas such as the media need competent - specialized - staff. This is also true for research and innovation in medicine, public health and the life sciences which regularly pose ethical questions. Development The existing program developed gradually as an extension of the supervision of medical dissertations on ethical issues. Graduates from other fields joined the group and showed interest as well as capability to master the complexities of the topics. Within the developing research colloquia colleagues from psychology, the humanities and other disciplines contributed to articulating meaningful research questions and to elaborating on approaches for interdisciplinary research in the field including collaboration with institutions beyond academia. Target groups, candidates Eligible for the program are graduates from medicine, psychology, or nursing (and other fields of health care), philosophy or other humanities; additional qualification in ethics - clinical ethics or bioethics - is particularly acknowledged. The successful candidates are capable of formulating and planning their PhD-research, to develop it further and to carry it through with the support of the supervisors. It is hoped that those obtaining the PhD will move into positions where they can benefit from their research and contribute to fostering ethical awareness and a climate of constructive problem solving, both within academia and in a wide range of societal, medical and public health fields. Mutual exchange and peer review Vital to the program and its success are regular exchanges on questions of content, methodology and framework, as well as the practical significance of the research. The colloquia and meetings include exchange with the collaborating dissertational committee members, the clinical partners, expert 10 von 10 advisors to the PhD-projects and the program as a whole. An extended active collaboration and dialogue is established among the PhD-Programs in the field of Basel (CH), Amsterdam (NL), Oslo (N) and Warwick (GB). PhD-candidates, postdocs and scholars share their project plans, methodological reflections and results in order to stimulate international exchange. Annual PhD-Colloquia allow for training key skills such as the presentation and critical appraisal of research on a peer-review basis. In order to foster the chances for developing future multi-center projects, networking between the groups is supported. January 2009, Prof. Dr. Stella Reiter-Theil Agreement The directors in charge of the PhD-Programs in the fields of Medical and Health Ethics of the Medical Faculties of BASEL, AMSTERDAM, OSLO and WARWICK agree to engage in mutual exchange on their projects and related topics with the aim to bring forward the research of the candidates and the centers involved. This shall also help to strengthen the development of the programs and their outreach into the fields of application, especially in the health care sector.
