PA Dutch 101 Video 23: Future Tense. Die Zukunft Future Tense • Up until this point we have only been discussing Present Tense sentences in PD. • Future Tense sentences can be formed in PD using the following equation: • Subject – WAERRE – other stuff – VERB. • The verb WAERRE acts like a Modal (video 20) in that it forces the verb to the end of the sentence. waerre • waerre (will be) is irregular and conjugates differently from regular verbs: ich du er/sie/es waer mir waerrscht dihr waerd sie waerre waerret waerre Future Tense • • • • • • Ich faahr nooch Humbarrick. Ich waer nooch Humbarrick faahre. Bringscht du en Freind mit? Waerrscht du en Freind mitbringe? Mir yaage in Clinton Kaunty. Mir waerre in Clinton Kaunty yaage. Future Tense • Should the content of the conversation or description imply future events, the present tense is often used with an adverb of time (mariye, heit, etc.). • Mir schpiele Baseballe. • Mir schpiele mariye Baseballe. • Mir gehne nooch Kanadaa. • Im Friehyaahr gehne mir nooch Kanadaa. Iewing - Practice • Turn the following sentences into Future Tense sentences: • Der Ray kaaft en Kuh. • Der Ray waerd en Kuh kaafe. • Dihr tschumpt iwwer die Grick. • Dihr waerret iwwer die Grick tschumpe. • Ich hol en annere Schtick Holz. • Ich waer en annere Schtick Holz hole.
