erleben. Tagsüber erfahren Sie die Vielfalt des Wells Gray Parks und Abends sitzen Sie
gemütlich am Feuer und betrachten die Sterne.

Located on one of the classic travel routes,
Wells Gray Park offers a great opportunity to
experience vast wilderness and unspoiled
nature on your journey through Western
Canada. Simply take a step aside, park your
car and explore the mountains, lakes, waterfalls, and hidden treasures of this beautiful
area. The Wells Gray Explorer offers an easy
escape into nature for novice adventurers. You
visit famous landmarks like Helmcken Falls
and Dawson Falls, also known as “little
Niagara”. The true highlight of this trip though
is the quietness and solitude you experience
while paddling the crystal clear waters and
hiking through old growth cedar forest. Camp
on sandy beaches and enjoy the sunsets and
spectacular views of the Caribou Mountains on
this memorable outdoor adventure.
This three day trip starts and ends at the Wells
Gray Guest Ranch near the entrance to the
Park.
Day 1:
At 9:00 am you register at the Wells Gray Guest
Ranch front desk and meet your guide and
fellow travelers. After double checking and
loading the equipment we start on our paddle
adventure. We stop at the Green Mountain
lookout tower and get an idea about what lies
ahead of us. From up here, overlooking the
southern part of Wells Gray Park, you can
clearly see how the landscape has been
modeled by volcanoes and glaciers. We
continue on to visit Dawson Falls (“Little
Niagara”) and finally reach the southern tip of
Clearwater Lake. This is where the road ends
and our paddling adventure begins! Your
guide will give you an extensive introduction
into paddling techniques and environmental
etiquette. Heading north along the untouched
shoreline of Clearwater Lake, we paddle our
canoes for 2 to 4 hours to a beautiful camp
site. Equipped with a fire pit, outhouse, bear
proof food containers and picnic tables. We
have all the basic amenities we need for a
comfortable set up. This will be our base for
the next two days and nights.
Day 2:
Today we explore Clearwater Lake with our
canoes. If you brought your fishing gear and
license, you have plenty of time to try your
luck! We usually stay close to shore and keep
watching out for wildlife. The views of Mount
Huntley and Garnet Peak are stunning and
present throughout the day. Weather permitting a one hour hike leads us to “Eagle’s
View”. From this exposed spot high above we
enjoy a beautiful vista over Clearwater Lake.
We paddle back to our campsite and enjoy
another dinner by the fire and underneath the
stars—maybe with some fresh caught trout?!
Day 3:
After a relaxing breakfast we paddle back to
the boat launch. After unloading the canoes we
take a short drive to Bailey’s Chute. In August
this is the best spot along the Clearwater River
to watch the salmon jumping. We next visit
majestic Helmcken Falls and admire the
powerful waters plunging 140m deep into an
impressive lava canyon. Around 4:30 pm this
memorable adventure ends with our return to
Wells Gray Guest Ranch.
