Modal Mania – What are Modal Verbs and how do we use them? Modal verbs are verbs that cannot exist on their own in a sentence – they need another verb in the sentence for it to make sense. eg I can……. – for this to be a true sentence, we need another verb with it. eg I can play football Here are the modal verbs in German and English.
