PROGRAM
Concept
I
n our era of globalization and personalized
medicine, patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals often have to make difficult
ethical choices. Their decisions affect both the
individuals involved, as well as the different areas of medical practice, such as surgery, intensive care, palliative care, oncology, etc.
For patients and their relatives, the complexity
of ethical choices can create anxiety and paralyze the decision-making process. Healthcare
professionals and caregivers need to be prepared to offer professional help and advice. It
is also crucial that, when offering support, they
take account of patients’ cultural identities and
individual preferences.
Alongside established clinical ethics committees, there is a clear need for innovative training programs to enhance the ethical and cultural competences of healthcare professionals
and caregivers.
At our workshop, we provide individually tailored, introductory training in ethically based,
culture- and gender-sensitive patient counseling to meet the needs of a university hospital.
Target Group
H
ealthcare professionals and caregivers who wish to provide patients from
diverse cultural backgrounds and their relatives with effective, but non-directive support in
making difficult ethical choices and decisions.
Trainers
A
team of internationally renowned experts
will provide an overview of ethically and
culturally based counseling, followed by small
group activities focused on case studies.
Konzept
I
n Zeiten von Globalisierung und personalisierter Medizin stehen Ärzte, Pflegende und Patienten oft vor neuen ethischen Herausforderungen. Die dabei aufkommenden Fragen belasten nicht nur die unmittelbar Betroffenen,
sie fordern auch von den beteiligten medizinischen Disziplinen, wie Chirurgie, Onkologie, Intensivmedizin oder
Palliativmedizin mit ihren jeweiligen fachspezifischen ethischen Traditionen Stellung zu beziehen.
Eine komplexe ethische Entscheidung kann Patienten und
ihre Angehörigen stark verunsichern, manchmal sogar
lähmen. Das behandelnde Team muss dann in der Lage
sein, sie kompetent zu beraten. Im Rahmen dieser Entscheidungsprozesse ist es wichtig, dass die jeweilige kulturelle Identität und die individuellen Präferenzen der Betroffenen verstanden und berücksichtigt werden.
Obwohl für besonders komplexe ethische Entscheidungen
Einrichtungen wie das klinische Ethikkomitee existieren,
die gegebenenfalls ad hoc unterstützen und beraten können, steigt der Bedarf an ethischen Kompetenzen im medizinisch-pflegerischen Team; dafür sind innovative Fortbildungsangebote nötig.
In diesem Workshop bieten wir ein sowohl theoretisches
als auch praxisorientiertes Einführungstraining zu einer
ethisch-basierten und individualisierten Patientenberatung. Besonderes Augenmerk wird auf die kulturelle und
geschlechterspezifische Diversität eines international geprägten Universitätsklinikums gerichtet.
