Reise zum Mond
This oral activity is suitable for practicing either the use of accusative objects or the use of
separable prefixes.
For Accusative: The teacher should start with a simple introduction. “Wir fliegen zum Mond. Ich
bringe einen/eine/ein …………………………. Was bringen Sie?“
The students must then repeat each of the objects mentioned with the correct accusative article as
they get their turn.
Beispiel: Teacher: Wir fliegen zum Mond. Ich bringe einen Hut. Was bringen Sie?
1. Student: Ich bringe einen Hut und eine Lampe. Was bringst du?
2. Student: Ich bringe einen Hut, eine Lampe und ein Buch. Was bringst du? usw.
The goal is to get through the entire class. Students are not allowed to write down the items, but
must remember them with the correct articles in their heads. With large classes, this can be very
challenging, and it is easy for students to forget about the correct accusative articles while trying to
remember all of the words, but it is important that the teacher corrects incorrect articles each time.
For Separable Prefix Verbs: The activity basically works the same way as described above,
except that the teacher uses a separable prefix verb instead (i.e., mitnehmen).
Beispiel: Teacher: Wir fliegen zum Mond. Ich nehme einen Hut mit. Was nehmen Sie mit?
1. Student: Ich nehme einen Hut und eine Lampe mit. Was nimmst du mit?
2. Student: Ich nehme einen Hut, eine Lampe und ein Buch mit. Was nimmst du mit?
usw.
Again, the goal is to get through the entire class. The longer the list of items gets, the more likely
students are to forget the separable prefix at the end. Make it clear to them that the sentence is not
finished until they add the prefix at the end.
Viel Spaß!
